Kelly Coleman on Vulnerability & What it Means to be a Work in Progress
Friday Feb 04, 2022
Friday Feb 04, 2022
On this episode we are joined by Kelly Coleman. Kelly started her teaching career fifteen years ago at a private high school for young women in her hometown of Pittsburgh. After losing one disastrous bet with students, Kelly had to read the Twilight series of books and immediately noticed that the young women sitting in her classroom were nothing like the one dimensional damsel in distress in the series they were reading. A few years later, her first YA novel was picked up and published. While the novel depicted teenagers in a much more realistic way, it also presented depression and anorexia in a very raw and authentic way.
Since then, Kelly moved four times in the course of two years which she would never recommend to anyone; she finally settled in Virginia. She still continues to teach at a public high school, and she created a blog during the pandemic to talk about the difficult, and often taboo, issues many people face but don't often discuss openly in an attempt to make the world a little less lonely. On Instagram, she focuses on the best ways to live a healthy lifestyle which includes keeping a gratitude journal, spending plenty of time with her dog, reading poolside, and failing at yoga.
She is currently working to start her own store called "Preppy With a Boho Streak”.
